South Waikato Ratepayers and Residents Action Group

Hi Members,

Last Monday, 2nd September, the South Waikato District Council voted to accept the Long Term Plan. It had been delayed because it was seen as unacceptable for various reasons, the chief of which was that the rate increases were unaffordable for so many.

Most Ratepayers have now received their latest Rates Invoice Instalment Invoice(s). For many, this was an extraordinary increase. Far above the 8.9% repeated so often by Council in their advertising and consultation process.

This fact was anticipated by many of us, who understood that the rates increase could be over and above the 8.9% because of the change in property values.

As individuals, we want to make a response to this increase that Council will listen to. As a group we can make a better impact. Our committee needs to know what ideas you have for such a response and if we meet and discuss those ideas, may the best idea win the vote.

Special Members Meeting
6:30pm next Wednesday, 11th September 2024
The Vine
77 Princess Street
Putaruru

The committee needs more members, there are five members at the moment, so we need to add to our number. Please consider becoming a member of the committee, especially if you have experience and a commitment to taking action for a better South Waikato and Council that will listen more closely to the needs of ratepayers and residents.

Friends and family who may wish to become members are most welcome to attend.
